Da the serpent

The serpent Da comes from the Fon people of Benin's mythology. Da is an earth sized serpent, quite like Jormungandr.

According to Kallen's book on mythology, Da is viewed as the "driving force of life"(kallen). Da is said to have helped Mawu, The fon people's supreme goddess, create the world, using his large body. According to Kallen, the Fon also believed in a female counterpart of Da, also named Da. She makes up the sky and is the creator of weather patterns. It is also important to note that Da is represented in many things like plant roots and umbilkical cords.

Furthermore, Kallen says that Da feeds on iron bars. Once those are gone, it's said that Da wil devour his tail causing the earth to fall into the sea.
