Kukulcan is the supreme god of the Yucatan Maya,the creator, and the god of resurrection and reincarnation. And as written by Bingham, author of South and Meso-American Mythology A to Z, "associated with venus"(Bingham pg 62). He is also considered as a culture hero and historic leader as Can was a well-established family name among the Maya and Kukul could have been a first or personal name.

As a hero god, Kukulcan is said to brought peace to CHichen Itza, created Mayapan, and then went west into the heavens to guard the people and answer their prayers. Other versions have him come from the ocean and disappear into the ocean.

The Mayans depicted him as a serpent with quetzal like feathers and jaguar esqu teeth and holding a human head. As a creator god, he has control over the four elements- earth,fire,air and water.

According to South and Meso-American Mythology A to Z, The mayans believed that at their capital, Chichen Itza , during the spring and fall equinoxes and only during these periods, a snakelike shadow appears along one side of the temple to Kukulcan, the feathered serpent god. Meaning that Kukulcan was a sign for the mayans of changing seasons.
